China's ports have posted a 12.6 percent increse in container throughput in the first 10 months of 2011 year on year to 135 million TEU, said Ministry of Transport spokesman He Jianzhong, reported Xinhua.
During this period, China made a fixed asset investment of CNY1.3 trillion (US$179.07 billion) on all traffic, up 11.5 percent. But road traffic investment gobbled up the lion's share at CNY1 trillion, an increase of 9.9 percent.
Meanwhile, river traffic investment increased 28.6 percent year on year, it received comparatively little with CNY29.06 billion. Coastal area investment, again growing by 32.4 percent year on year, receives substantial more at CNY81.3 billion, but still well behind the CNY1 trillion devoted to roads.
Throughput tonnage of the Chinese ports totalled 7.55 billion tonnages, up 13.6 percent. Foreign trade cargo grew 11.4 percent to 2.28 billion tonnes. Domestic trade cargo amounted to 5.27 billion tonnes, up 14.6 percent.
in the same period, China's waterway cargo volume increased 15.3 percent to 3.5 billion tonnes. Turnover volume grew 16.2 percent to 6,220.9 billion tonnes per kilometre.
